This summer, everyone will be ‘off to see the wizard’ at the Hyde Park Opera House as LCP presents The Wizard of Oz July 16-19 and 23-26.  Showtime is 7:00pm, except for the Sunday matinees at 2:00pm.  Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students or seniors.  Please note there is a special half-priced matinee on July 19.

Director Patty Jacob ofJeffersonville invites you to see this wonderful musical adventure, made world famous from the movie of the same name.  Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas (played by Danielle Carrier, of Hyde Park), like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world.  Come join Dorothy, the Scarecrow (Justin Pomerville, of Johnson), the Tin Man (George Feeney, of Johnson), and the Cowardly Lion (Dan Martin, of E.Hardwick) as they travel to “the Merry Old Land of Oz”!

This version of The Wizard of Oz, based on the film version, includes the songs so many of us know by heart, including: Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead), If I Only Had A Brain, We're Off To See The Wizard, and The Merry Old Land of Oz.

Jacob explains that this version, while based on the film version, does NOT try to re-create the movie.  “This version does not include Toto or the flying Monkeys, just to give two examples,” she says.  This version employs its set, lights, props,  actors, and musicians in theatrically traditional ways to tell Mr. Baum's story. The story and the music mostly mirror the movie, but there are some different elements which allow us to present this story live, creating a fantastic theater experience at the Hyde Park Opera House.
