| SYNOPSIS: This hilarious rewrite of a theater classic is one of the few examples where an adaptation may actually be better than the original. Neil Simon is at the top of his game with this rich and lively comedy about what happens when two polar opposites are thrown together by circumstance. Olive Madison is perfectly happy in her messy apartment with her sodas and soft drinks until her fussy friend Florence's marriage breaks up and she moves in with her. With the help of their four close friends and Trivial Pursuit partners (Sylvie, Mickey, Renee and Vera) this unlikely couple weathers a series of zany events, including a show-stopping visit by two Spanish suitors, the Costazuela brothers. This is a gem of a show requiring great character acting and comic timing. |
| CHARACTERS: OLIVE MADISON: Owner of apartment in which show takes place. Says exactly what's on her mind and isn't afraid to get angry. Down to earth and doesn't waste time with housekeeping. Prefers Sports Illustrated. Stage age 30's-50's FLORENCE UNGER: Recently split from husband, moves in with friend Olive. Very emotional, likes cleanliness and order-a perfectionist and near-opposite to Olive. Stage age 30's-50's. SYLVIE, MICKEY, RENEE, and VERA: Four close friends of Olive and Florence. All are onstage much of the time and will have distinctive, entertaining personalities. Great character parts! Stage ages 20's-60's. |
